Platelet-rich Plasma for Skin Rejuvenation and Treatment of Actinic Elastosis in the Lower Eyelid Area

Treatment of the lower eyelid region to rejuvenate the skin or treat actinic elastosis often proves difficult. Established treatment options, such as hyaluronic acid injections, botulinum toxin injections, microneedling, skin resurfacing (microdermabrasion, chemical peel (exfoliation), laser treatment), as well as blepharoplasties and autologous fat transfers, can be associated with significant risks and increased patient burden. Furthermore, they may not be effective for treating the signs of skin aging or actinic elastosis, including dark rings under the eyes, a lack of volume and cutis laxa. A minimally invasive treatment approach which visibly improves the above-mentioned conditions and which involves minimal risk and patient burden would be a desirable alternative.

Twenty patients were treated a total of three times at monthly intervals with PRP (platelet-rich plasma). The patients were examined on the days of treatment and one month after the third injection. The PRP was obtained directly prior to treatment using the Arthrex ACP double syringe at the point of care. The injections (2 ml PRP per side) were administered laterally using 27 G 38 mm cannulas. Accurate photographic documentation and skin elasticity measurements using a cutometer were performed to objectify the subjective assessments from the patient and practitioner questionnaires. The results indicate that a series of PRP injections in the lower eyelid region is a safe, efficient, virtually pain-free, simple and rapid treatment option for an area with otherwise limited treatment alternatives. Can Platelet-rich Plasma Be Used for Skin Rejuvenation? Evaluation of Effects of Platelet-rich Plasma on Human Dermal Fibroblast

In this study, the effects of activated platelet-rich plasma (aPRP) and activated platelet-poor plasma (aPPP) have been investigated on the remodelling of the extracellular matrix, a process that requires activation of dermal fibroblasts, which is essential for rejuvenation of aged skin. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-poor plasma (PPP) were prepared using a double-spin method and then activated with thrombin and calcium chloride. The proliferative effects of aPRP and aPPP were measured by [3H]thymidine incorporation assay, and their effects on matrix protein synthesis were assessed by quantifying levels of procollagen type I carboxy-terminal peptide (PIP) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The production of collagen and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) was studied by Western blotting and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Results from the study showed that aPRP and aPPP promote tissue remodelling in aged skin and may be used as adjuvant treatment to lasers for skin rejuvenation in cosmetic dermatology. Introduction About the Topic

Vampire Facelift

You have many options to help your face with a new look. Instead of going using abrasives, harsh peels or a surgical facelift, you may use the Vampire Facelift, a type of skin care treatment. The Vampire Facelift procedure is credited to Charles Runels, MD. As a nonsurgical skin rejuvenation technique, the vampire technique helps to give your face a new look.

The Vampire Facelift technique is a very effective skin care technique. It slows down the aging clock and enhances the healing process of damaged skin. Vampire facelift technique makes use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a natural product made from your own blood. This s the origin of the “vampire” in the Vampire Facelift.

To create the plasma rich therapy, the doctor will draw your blood and then process via centrifugation. When the blood is centrifuged, it separates into its component parts – the white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and then plasma. At this time, the plasma contains a higher number of platelets and other growth factors – reason why it is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. Platelet rich plasma is the foundation of vampire facelift.

Platelets enhances the healing of damaged tissues, and also boosts the growth of new cells. When we introduce platelet rich plasma into the injured areas of the skin, it will then act as a medium to enhance tissue regeneration and growth of collagen.

The PRP serum contains eight growth factors. The body uses these growth factors to heal its injured tissues. This same principle is applied in the Vampire Facelift. The growth factors will work to heal tissues in the face’s skin, increasing new blood flow and collagen growth.

This then tightens and smoothens the skin, softening the wrinkles, and improving the skin’s texture and tone. These are the hallmarks of the vampire facelift.

What are the benefits of this procedure?

The first step to take before treatment is to find out the exact cause of the hair loss. In most cases, hair loss is hereditary. If your family has a history of baldness, then there are chances that you may suffer it also. Hereditary hair loss may also be caused by some sex hormones. Some patients experience hair loss as early as puberty.

Some hair loss conditions may begin with just a halt in hair growth. It can also be triggered by illnesses, traumatic events, or surgeries.

Temporary hair loss may be caused by hormonal changes due to childbirth, pregnancy, and even menopause.

Health conditions that may contribute to hair loss include alopecia areata, disease of the thyroid gland, and infections of the scalp such as ring worm. Lichen planus, and other medical conditions that causes scarring may cause a permanent loss of hair (due to the scarring).

Hair loss may also be caused by strong medications such as those used for the treatment of high blood pressure, cancer, arthritis, heart problems, and cancer.

Significant loss of the hair may also be caused by an emotional or a physical shock. Examples of such types of shock include drastic weight loss, death of a friend or relative, or a very high fever. The hair may also thin when a person is deficient in iron, protein, and other nutrients.

What happens during the treatment?

We had mentioned before that platelet rich plasma is the foundation of the vampire facelift. Our medical staff will draw a small quantity of blood from your body. This blood will then be centrifuged. The centrifugation process is a quick one, so it may be done while your skin is being cleaned and readied for the facelift procedure.

After preparing your skin, the first procedure is to optionally inject an effective and safe filler. This injection will lift your skin and then restore the facial shape and youthful volume. Before injecting, the physician will numb the area with a numbing cream or injection. Injection is done with a very small needle, thus drastically reducing discomfort during the whole process.

After the injection of the filler, the PRP is applied. The PRP is injected below the dermis. Injection of the platelet rich plasma is done through a microneedling method. This method of microneedling involves the use of miniscule needles that will form many microscopic channels into which the platelet rich plasma serum is introduced. These microneedles are very effective in minimizing discomfort.

The Vampire Facelift serum is loaded with growth factors and platelets. Because of these essential components, it activates the growth of new tissues within the dermis. The dermis is the layer of skin that lies just below the epidermis. It is supplied with nerve endings, sweat glands, blood capillaries, hair follicles, and other such components. Because the Vampire facelift operates at the level of the dermis, it is able to enhance the shape of the face and restore its texture and tone.

Note that the growth factors in the PRP stimulates the stem cells within the skin, making them to believe that the skin has been injured. The stem cells will then work along with the platelet rich plasma serum to enhance the development of young, fresh skin tissues, including fatty tissue (that is important for skin smoothness), collagen, and new blood vessels that enhance the healthy glow of the skin.

The vampire technique does not cause any serious discomfort. The procedure is completed in less than 20 minutes and is relatively painless. You can continue with your daily activities after the treatment.

Depending on your skin type, you may experience some redness, swelling, or bruising. However, these will fade within three days. Yeah! Just three days and no one will have an idea that anything was done to your face. What they will notice instead will be a more youthful glow, and healthier shape on your face.

Current Treatment at Other Clinics

Current treatment involves using medications, injection or surgery.  These treatments are considered a patch up of the problem without treating the root cause of the problem.  Medications & injections have many side.  Surgery can be very debilitating with prolong downtime during recovery requiring at times prolonged bed rest for recovery.  It also entails a lot of risk including risk of infection, bleeding, poor surgical outcome to name a few.

Stem Cell Injections and Platelet Rich Plasma Injections are very effective treatments for hair loss. As a matter of fact, they work effectively, do not require surgery, and there’s no need for creams or daily medications.

We are different from many other clinics who offer stem cell or PRP.   Other may also not offer option of bone marrow derived stem cell, Adipose derived stem cell & umbilical cord stem cell.  They in effect expose patients to more invasive treatments like drilling bones without offering other easier options.  Furthermore, they may not have proper knowledge of how other modalities can enhance the effects of Stem Cells.  These other modalities are used by us to focus on the whole disease and treating different parts of it instead of just treating one out of several diseased structures in the body.

Safe Non Surgical Option

We use a combination of newest cutting edge technology in regenerative medicine to stimulate body’s own repair ability to reverse aging and damage.   We use Stem Cells as part of treatment plan designed by the doctor to treat the body.    These are safe investigational treatments that have shown very promising & safe results in thousands of treatments over the 10-20 years in Europe and USA.   They don’t involve using any medications or drugs.

What Do PRP & Stem Cell Therapy Do?

The researchers believe that the therapy works by:

Releasing cytokines into the body to prevent further damage and inflammation.

Preventing inflammation that can make the disease worse.

Creating healthy new tissues or missing or damaged products in body.

Stimulate new blood vessel and nerve formation or activation. Stem Cells shown to awaken tissues in brain in stroke patients.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are the cornerstone, the very foundation of every structure in your body (this includes all your organs and systems). The human body has different types of stem cells – each from a separate origin, and formed at different times and for different purposes. These stem cells include the embryonic stem cells that can only be found during the early stage of fetal development, and the adult or tissue-specific stem cells that show up during development of the fetus. These adult stem cells remain inside the body all through the person’s life.

Stem cells have the ability to regenerate themselves. They can also differentiate into more specialized cells. These are two very important abilities of stem cells – regeneration and differentiation. Apart from these two capabilities, there are very wide variations in the other capabilities of stem cells, and in the circumstances in which they can act. This is one of the reasons why all types of stem cells are used during a particular research.

A Brief Look At Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelets are basically a type of blood cells. They are also known as thrombocytes. Platelets contain growth factors that boosts the body’s healing and rejuvenation processes.

In PRP treatment, we will collect a very small amount of your blood (roughly 25 ccs), and then separate it into its component parts using a centrifuge. The platelets are then separated, creating a concentration known as the platelet rich plasma. The platelet rich plasma has a concentration that is 8 times higher than normal blood.

How does stem cell and PRP help in facial and skin rejuvenation?

If there is anything that can be rightly classified as a myth, it is the perfect skin. If you have a friend or a loved one who always has that fresh, smooth, and youthful skin, then chances are that he or she may be using an anti-aging treatment. As you get older and skin conditions start to show up, your skin may get scarred, and also get exhausted, physically.

Facial aging is not something that you should be ashamed. It is one hundred percent a natural process. This doesn’t mean that you cannot work on it, or even heal it. No! You can! Science has brought about a breakthrough in facial and skin health. With stem cell PRP, you can restore full health to your skin, just like you would to any other injured or damaged part of your body.

PRP (Platelet-rich-plasma) injections has revolutionized the anti-aging treatment(s), leaving the faces of users healthy and glowing.

It has been established that stem cell PRP injection boost the revitalization of the skin, especially in facial injury. Many celebrities have made use of this method. They include Tiger Woods, Angelina Jolie, and Alex Rodriguez.

Injection of the facial skin creates an immune response, thus replenishing the collagens, platelets, elastin, growth factors, and fibroblasts.

Within six weeks, there will be a regeneration of new tissue, and formation of new collagen.

This stem cell PRP technique will heal damaged skin (due to scarring, acne, aging, and injuries).

What makes our facility special?

At our Los Angeles facility, we have invented modern approaches to medical care. Our approach to treatment is second to none. The harvesting process does not involve any form of drilling, and the stem cells are purified and tested for quality before injection. We also employ ultrasound to help in the precise location of high dose stem cells at the required site. These cells will then perform their duty, promoting the formation of new tissues. We are experts in this and has seen positive outcome with our treatments. Our licensed physicians have undergone intense training running into thousands of hours, and so, you can be sure that you are in safe hands.

Frequently Asked Questions

From where do stem cells originate?

Stem cells are present in many tissues and organs. The bone marrow is the richest source of stem cells. However, the most convenient region for harvesting is the umbilical cord.

How are adult stem cells harvested?

The physician draws the stem cells from the umbilical cord. The stem cells and the growth factors will then be concentrated using specially designed equipment. The physician then injects the cells into the destined regions.

Does stem cell therapy have any side effects?

Side effects are very minimal. It may be accompanied by minor irritation or pain at the site of injection. Because we are using your own stem cells, the chances of rejection by your immune system are extremely low.

What is PRP therapy?

Basically, PRP makes use of your platelets to boost your body’s healing ability. The aim is to promote healing in the region where it has not otherwise occurred.
