The Difference

Treatments at other Clinics :

"Patch up" treatments like, addicting pain medications, Steroid injection, surgery (many side effects including weight gain & increased blood sugar, damage to kidneys, heart, stroke & gastric ulcer from NSAIDs.)

May not know how to use ultrasound during the injections which is very critical in ensuring a safe & accurate injection. May use xray with unnecessary radiation for injections instead of ultrasound.

PRP & Sonic wave (ESWT) not used to enhance the effects of Stem Cells.

May not offer option of different bone stem cell types. (only offer drilling bones or low quality umbilical stem cells.)

May use poorly trained non-physician assistants to evaluate & perform injections.

Not FDA compliant.

Treatments at Our Clinic :

Treating the root cause of the problem by regenerating and repairing the damaged regions. Good safety profile with body products from own body.

Precision ultrasound guided injection to joints without any radiation to ensure safe delivery of stem cells & PRP to the correct location. (Shown to increase positive results by 20-40% vs. without ultrasound)

Other modalities like PRP & Sonic Wave use to focus on the whole joint and treating different parts of it instead of just treating one out of several diseased structures in the joint.

Several types of stem cell including Adipose (fat), bone marrow and umbilical cord derived options available.

Needle Free Air-Jet Pain pre Injections option.

We perform our procedures at a private Room by Medical Office Towers* in Los Angeles, with easy access to many Hospitals, Ranked in the top 10 USA Hospitals.

Research Papers

For years, we have done thorough research, gathered results data of patients, and gotten reviews from patients, all with a single purpose in mind – to give you adequate information that will allow you make the best decision with regards to treatment of your condition.

1. Beitzel, Knut, Olga Solovyova, Mark P Cote, John Apostolakos, Ryan P Russell, Mary Beth McCarthy, and Augustus D Mazzocca. 2013. The future role of mesenchymal stem cells in the management of shoulder disorders. Arthroscopy : the journal of arthroscopic & related surgery : official publication of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Arthroscopy Association, no. 10 (August 21). doi:10.1016/j.arthro.2013.06.014. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23972267.

Biologics may help to optimize the healing environment after rotator cuff repair. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) may have the potential to regenerate a physiological enthesis, thereby improving healing at the repair site after rotator cuff repair. The current literature regarding therapeutic use of MSCs in shoulder surgery is limited. Although in vivo animal studies have shown some promising approaches to enhance tendon-to-bone healing, the use of MSCs for shoulder surgery should still be regarded as an experimental technique. Further basic and clinical research is needed until a procedure can be defined for the routine use of these cells in shoulder surgery.

Allogenous tendon stem/progenitor cells in silk scaffold for functional shoulder repair. Cell transplantation, no. 5 (March 8). doi:10.3727/096368911X627453. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22405331.

Tendon stem/progenitor cells (TSPCs) were recently identified within tendon tissues. The aim of this study was to investigate TSPC-seeded knitted silk-collagen sponge scaffold for functional shoulder repair. The multidifferentiation potential, proliferation, and immune properties of TSPCs were investigated in vitro, while the efficacy of TSPC-seeded knitted silk-collagen sponge scaffolds in promoting rotator cuff regeneration was evaluated in vivo within a rabbit model. TSPCs, which exhibited universal stem cell characteristics (i.e., clonogenicity, high proliferative capacity, and multidifferentiation potential), nonimmunogenicity, and immunosuppression, proliferated well on our scaffold in vitro. Implantation of allogenous TSPC-seeded scaffolds within a rabbit rotator cuff injury model did not elicit an immunological reaction, but instead increased fibroblastic cell ingrowth and reduced infiltration of lymphocytes within the implantation sites at 4 and 8 weeks postsurgery. After 12 weeks, the allogenous TSPC-treated group exhibited increased collagen deposition and had better structural and biomechanical properties compared to the control group. This study thus demonstrated that the allogenous TSPC-seeded knitted silk-collagen sponge scaffold enhanced the efficacy of rotator cuff tendon regeneration by differentiating into tenocytes, and by secreting anti-inflammatory cytokines that prevent immunological rejection. Hence, allogenous TSPC-seeded knitted silk-collagen sponge scaffolds can be a clinically useful application for tendon tissue engineering.

3. Utsunomiya, Hajime, Soshi Uchida, Ichiro Sekiya, Akinori Sakai, Kuniaki Moridera, and Toshitaka Nakamura. 2013. Isolation and characterization of human mesenchymal stem cells derived from shoulder tissues involved in rotator cuff tears. Recent studies report a relatively high failure rate for tendon-bone healing after rotator cuff repair. Several studies have investigated biologically augmented rotator cuff repair; however, none has shown the application of synovial mesenchymal stem cells for such repair. Forty-two patients with a diagnosed rotator cuff tear preoperatively were enrolled in this study. Human mesenchymal tissues were obtained during arthroscopic surgery for rotator cuff tears from 19 donors who met the inclusion criteria and had investigable amounts of tissue. Colony-forming units, yield obtained, expandability, differentiation potential, epitope profile, and gene expression were compared among the cells from 4 shoulder tissues: synovium of the glenohumeral joint, subacromial bursa, margin of the ruptured supraspinatus tendon, and residual tendon stump on the greater tuberosity (enthesis). The findings indicate that the subacromial bursa is a good candidate for the source of mesenchymal stem cells in rotator cuff tears.

Above are AB’s pre and post MRI’s.  On the left the rotator cuff tendon (red arrows) are bright in color and mottled in appearance. This means that it’s a full thickness tear with severe degeneration.  On the right is AB’s MRI 2 year post stem cell injection.  The rotator cuff tendon identified by the yellow arrows is better organized and darker in color consistent with significant healing.    This is consistent with her clinical improvement.

Review & Testimonials/Case Examples

“I’m 73 yo and have torn meniscus and OA. 3 orthos told me I needed knee replacement. Heard about stem cell and had umbilical stem cells injected then my PRP injected a month later. My knee doesn’t hurt nor buckle any more. It does still get ‘tired’ and a little sore but it’s only been about 6 wks since stem cells. … I still have personal trainers but all exercises are done while I’m seated.”

Bobbi S.

“I am receiving treatment for severe osteoarthritis of right ankle.

I have previously consulted two surgeons and was a considered a candidate for ankle fusion with no cartilage left in my ankle. . My mobility problems was getting severe but ankle fusion was terrifying due to permanent lame condition that would result with a “successful” outcome to control pain.

I have been treated with PRP followed 6 weeks later by autologous stem cells from fatty tissue taken from my mid-riff, then PRP again after another 6 weeks.

5 months after the initial treatment I have improved greatly with regard to pain and functioning of my ankle. I used to walk with difficulty, for limited distances and use a cane. Now I only use a cane if I am going for a very long walk or a hike.”

Introduction About the Topic

Research has shown that most rotator cuff surgeries do not improve the patient’s condition. It is believed that some patients are better off with no surgery at all. Our facility is at hand to help you with effective and alternative treatment using stem cell therapy. We have what it takes to effectively treat shoulder injury, shoulder pain, and sports injuries. Shoulder injuries are mainly due to managed or torn rotor cuffs, injuries to the shoulder labrum, and replacement of the shoulder joint, caused by the degenerative effects of osteoarthritis.

Rotator cuff tear

The rotator cuff refers to a group of muscles whose role it is to stabilize the shoulder. They enhance mobility. Whenever you move your shoulder, or attempt to move it, you are putting your rotator cuff to use. This helps to stabilize and move your joint.

The rotator cuff is very prone to injuries. Injuries that are very common to the rotator cuff include bursitis, tendinitis, and strains.

Injuries to the rotator cuff may be mild or severe and are placed into any of three categories.

Tendinitis occur when the rotator cuff is overused. This results in inflammation. It is very common in tennis players and painter.

Bursitis is also another common injury to the rotator cuff. Bursitis basically refers to the inflammation of the bursa. The bursa are sacks filled with fluid. These sacs lie between the tendon of the rotator cuff and the underlying bone.

Strains or tears to the rotator cuff occur in the event of an acute injury or during overuse. The tendon may undergo a partial or complete tear. Other causes of a rotator cuff tear include automobile accident, and a fall or an acute injury.

Shoulder Labrum Tear

The labrum is a cartilage located in the shoulder’s socket joint. It cups the joint at the upper arm bone, thus linking the two joints.

The labrum positions the ball in the socket with the help of the rotator cuff. This allows the rotation of the upper arm. Consistent injuries or repetitive motions can cause a tear in the labrum, resulting in pain.

There is also a labrum at the point where the leg meets with the hip. However, a tear in this region is rare because of its thickness.

The shoulder also has a shallow opening known as the glenoid. This opening has a socket-like appearance. Tears may happen anywhere around here.

Labrum tears are of three types:

  • Bankart tear
  • SLAP tear or lesion
  • Posterior labrum tear

Labrum tears may also result from traumatic injury, and tear due to repetitive motion.

Shoulder osteoarthritis

There are two important joints in the shoulder – the glenohumeral joint, and, the acromioclavicular joint. At the acromioclavicular joint, there is the meeting of the clavicle (or collarbone) with the acromion. At the glenohumeral joint, the humerus meets with the scapula. Osteoarthritis is prominent in the AC joint.

Osteoarthritis occurs in persons above the age of 50. It may occur in young people, but due to external factors such as dislocation, fracture (of the shoulder).  This is referred to as posttraumatic arthritis.

The primary symptom is pain. Pain occurs while moving the shoulder or after moving the shoulder. The pain may even occur during sleep.

Another symptom is a reduced range of motion. This is evident when the patient attempts to move his or her arm. An attempt to move the shoulder may result in a creaking or clicking noise.

Current Treatment at Other Clinics

Current treatment of shoulder involves using medications for pain, steroid injection, shoulder surgery and physical therapy which can temporary alleviate the pain.   These treatments are considered a patch up of the problem without treating the root cause of the problem.  Medications & steroids have many side effects including weight gain & increased blood sugar from steroids, damage to kidneys, heart, stroke & gastric ulcer from NSAIDs.  Surgery can be very debilitating with prolong downtime during recovery requiring at times prolonged bed rest & even residing in nursing home for recovery.  It also entails a lot of risk including risk of infection, bleeding, poor surgical outcome to name a few.  At many times surgery fails to alleviate the pain.  Stem cells however, reduce the inflammation and pain that are typical of these conditions. They also work to regenerate and repair the damaged regions 2. Current research on the effect of stem cells in pain management has shown positive results.

We are different from many other clinics who offer stem cell or PRP.   Other clinics may not use ultrasound during the injections which is very critical in ensuring a safe & accurate injection.  They may also not offer option of bone marrow derived stem cell, Adipose derived stem cell & umbilical cord stem cell.  They in effect expose patients to more invasive treatments like drilling bones without offering other easier options.  They also may use xray with unnecessary radiation for injections that can be easily avoided in most cases by using ultrasound.  Furthermore, they may not have proper knowledge of how PRP & Sonic wave (ESWT) can enhance the effects of Stem Cells.  These other modalities are used by us to focus on the whole joint and treating different parts of it instead of just treating one out of several diseased structures in the joint.

Safe Non Surgical Option

We use a combination of newest cutting edge technology in regenerative medicine to stimulate body’s own repair ability to reverse aging and damage.   We use a careful combination of Stem Cells, PRP and Sonic Waves (ESWT) as part of treatment plan designed by the doctor to treat the body.    These are safe investigational treatments that have shown very promising & safe results in thousands of treatments over the 10-20 years in Europe and USA.   They don’t involve using any medications or drugs.

What Does ESWT, PRP & Stem Cell Therapy Do?

The researchers believe that the therapy works by:

Releasing cytokines into the body to prevent further damage to cartilage and reduce pain and inflammation.

Preventing inflammation that can make osteoarthritis worse.

Creating healthy new cartilage tissues.

Many patients experience improvements in the treated area and other areas, like in a Mayo Clinic study where patients benefited in both knees after experiencing injections in only one.

Stem cell treatment for shoulder injuries

Humans have billions of cells in their bodies. Among these cells are specialized stem cells that builds the brain, the muscles, joints, tendons, etc. our cells die off naturally each day. When they die, they are replaced with new ones almost immediately.  This is the goal of regenerative medicine.

At our center, we treat injured shoulders with embryological stem cells that enhances natural and safe healing of shoulder injury without any of the side effects that are typical of surgeries.

The concentrated mesenchymal stem cells used are derived from the embryo. Older patients benefit more from enhanced allogenic cells derived from cord tissue or amniotic membrane. The area to be injected is numbed with an anesthetic (topical or local) while the injection is delivered to the affected area through intramuscular injections or intravenous drips.

Platelet rich plasma treatment for Shoulder

Platelets are important in body healing. In PRP, the patient is injected with his or her own platelets to enhance the healing of injured joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons.

To perform a PRP, a sample of your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge. The platelet fraction is then separated and mixed with a little bit of plasma. This is then injected into the affected tissue. Growth factors are released by the platelets that stimulate the production of reparative cells.

To ensure precision, we use ultrasound imaging to guide the injection process.

ESWT for Shoulder

During examination, our specialists will locate the point where the pain is most intense, and then apply a water-based medium there. This will enhance the transmission of impulses to that area. A probe will then be placed on that area, and treatment begins.

Very minimal pain or an aching sensation occurs after the treatment. This may last for a few days. After subsequent treatment, you will notice an improvement in symptoms, le

What makes our facility special?

At our Los Angeles facility, we have invented modern approaches to orthopedic care. Our approach to treatment is second to none. The harvesting process does not involve any form of drilling, and the stem cells are purified and tested for quality before injection. We also employ ultrasound to help in the precise placement of high dose stem cells at the required site. These cells will then perform their duty, promoting the formation of new tissues. Please note that this process only occurs if the cells have been injected to the exact site. We are experts in this and has seen positive outcome with our treatments. Our licensed physicians have undergone intense training running into thousands of hours, and so, you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
